Bill Kaulitz

Bill Kaulitz (born September 1, 1989),[1] also known mononymously as Billy (stylized as BILLY) for his solo act, is a German singer, songwriter, voice actor, designer, and model. He is best known for his work from 2001 to the present as the lead singer of the band Tokio Hotel.
Early life
Bill Kaulitz was born on 1 September 1989 in Leipzig, German Democratic Republic.[1] He has an identical twin brother, Tom, who is older by ten minutes. His parents, Simone Kaulitz and Jörg W., separated when Kaulitz and his brother were seven years old. Simone married Gordon Trümper, the guitarist from the German rock band Fatun on 1 August 2009, after dating for 12 years.[2]

Kaulitz showed an early interest in singing, as did Tom in playing guitar. Trümper noticed the twins' musical inclinations, and helped the twins to start their own band.[1][3][4] According to Kaulitz in several interviews, he and Tom started writing music at the age of seven years.

Career
Early musical career (1999–2003)
At the age of ten the brothers began performing live in Magdeburg, near their hometown of Loitsche They played small shows and while their audiences enjoyed them, they were largely unknown. The band lacked a drummer and bass player and the twins relied on a keyboard to fill in other instrumental sounds.

The year the brothers turned twelve, they met Georg Listing (then 14) and Gustav Schäfer (then 13), in the audience of one of their shows. Listing and Schäfer were friends and after the show, having liked what they heard and saw, made an offer to join. The band was promptly renamed "Devilish" due to an article published at the time that referred to their "devilishly great"[citation needed] sound. The four continued to perform, but aside from being featured on a small-time German news program somewhere between late 2002 and early 2003, Devilish were not going anywhere until Kaulitz auditioned on the reality TV talent show "Star Search."

First releases
This continued until 2005 when Jost arranged a meeting between the band and Universal Music Group's Interscope Records and Tokio Hotel was signed. They began working immediately, releasing their debut LP Schrei ("Scream") later that year. Their first single from Schrei was "Durch den Monsun" ("Through The Monsoon"), which reached #1 in Germany within a month of its release.
Tokio Hotel launched their debut tour in Germany, to support the release of Schrei and its singles. They toured Germany and also recorded a live DVD. On stage, Kaulitz was noted and well known for his energetic style and harmonizing with the fans (he would frequently let the audience sing verses instead of him).

In 2006, Kaulitz voiced the role of Arthur in the first part of the German version of the film Arthur and the Invisibles.[6]

Tokio Hotel were a household name in Germany at this point, and this compelled the band to return to the studio. After the success of Schrei, Tokio Hotel began working on their second album, Zimmer 483 (Room 483), released in February 2007. The album spawned three singles initially: "Übers Ende der Welt" ("Over the End of the World" – released as "Ready, Set, Go!"), "Spring nicht" ("Don't Jump"), and "An deiner Seite (Ich bin da)" ("By Your Side (I am there)" – released as "By Your Side"). A fourth single, "Heilig" ("Holy" – released as "Sacred"), was released in 2008.

To support the release of Zimmer 483, Tokio Hotel began a continental tour of Europe, spawning another live DVD and a large publicity boost.
As Tokio Hotel's fanbase increased in the Western part of the world, Kaulitz and the band decided to re-record select songs from both Schrei and Zimmer 483 for a new English-language LP so that fans around the world could understand the band's songs. The result of these re-recorded songs was Tokio Hotel's debut English album, titled Scream. The album was released in Europe in mid-2007 (albeit with the name Room 483, the literal translation of Zimmer 483, to express its continuity with that album), however it did not reach release in the West until mid-2008.

Scream spawned four singles, including "Scream", "Monsoon" (the translated version of "Durch den Monsun" however the title was not 100% literally translated), "Don't Jump" (the translated version of "Spring Nicht"), and "Ready, Set, Go!" (the translated version of "Übers Ende der Welt", again not a literal translation of the title). Scream was moderately successful internationally, and to support the release, Tokio Hotel left Europe for the first time in their careers, and flew to the United States.

In February 2008, Tokio Hotel first set foot in North America to play five shows, starting in Canada and ending in New York. Tokio Hotel were the first German act since Nena to gain success internationally, and maintain their status. The U.S. tour was a success, but when they went back to Europe for their 1000 Hotels Tour, disaster struck.

1000 hotels tour and medical complications
The 1000 Hotels Tour began in Brussels, Belgium, on 3 March 2008, and was set to continue through the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Scandinavia, ending on the 9 April. However eleven days after the start of the tour, on 14 March, Kaulitz began to experience voice problems in the middle of a show in Marseilles, France. He let the audience sing more often and the band cut their set down from twenty-one to sixteen songs.

Two days after the incident in France, Tokio Hotel cancelled a show in Lisbon, Portugal moments before it was to commence. The band, with the exception of Kaulitz, came on the stage and apologized for the show being cancelled. They explained that Kaulitz was sick and was being flown back to Germany to see a specialist: he had played forty-three shows without a break and had developed an untreated throat infection. The infection caused a cyst to develop on the singer's vocal cords that had to be removed via larynx surgery on 30 March. Kaulitz was unable to speak for ten days afterwards and had to undergo speech therapy for one month.

By May 2008 Kaulitz had sufficiently recovered and Tokio Hotel rescheduled the 1000 Hotels Tour dates, adding several open-air concerts. The tour concluded on 13 July 2008 in Werchter, Belgium, and, despite the surgery and time taken off, was deemed a success.

Humanoid (2008–2011)
Over 2008 and 2009, Tokio Hotel returned to the recording studio to record their second English album and third German album. The result was Humanoid, which was a much more techno-oriented release and a new sound. Humanoid was released on October 6, 2009, and just short of a month later Tokio Hotel picked up the "Best Group" award at the EMAs in Berlin on November 5. Humanoid has so far spawned two singles, "Automatic"/"Automatisch", released in September 2009, and "World Behind My Wall"/"Lass uns laufen" (meaning "Let Us Run"), to be released in January 2010.
Public image
German site www.dw-world.com says that his look, young age and edgy hairstyle has helped him obtain icon status among many teenage girls.[15] Kaulitz designs many of his own stage costumes, and despite poor drawing skills, the designs are constructed by his tailor.[16] The singer apparently collects suspenders, and is also "totally crazy about jackets". Kaulitz reports he has hundreds of jackets in his closet – though he has said that none of his jackets are real leather as he is opposed to using animal pelts/feathers for clothing.[16] He cites his fashion and style influences as David Bowie (particularly in the 1986 film Labyrinth), Nena, Vampires, Paris' secondhand shops, striking jewelry and Dior Homme.[16] He also cites Steven Tyler, Karl Lagerfeld and Hedi Slimane.
In August 2008, Kaulitz was chosen as the most attractive singer on stage by the readers of the Spanish magazine ¡Hola!.[17] He was also immortalized in wax at the Madame Tussauds museum in Berlin on September 30, 2008. Kaulitz was 19 when the likeness was made, making him the youngest person to be duplicated by the Madame Tussauds museum in Berlin.[18][19] In December 2008, Bill Kaulitz was named "Man of the Year #6" by MTV News.[20]

In September 2009, Kaulitz was chosen by fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld to take part in a photo shoot for the 30th birthday of Vogue in Germany.[16][21] Karl Lagerfeld described him as "The Other Idea of a German" and wrote that the 20-year-old singer with the unusual styling became a superstar; and a fashion icon.[16]

While in October 2009, Kaulitz was number 11 on German magazine GQ's Best Dressed list. They cite his flamboyant style as one of the reasons he was chosen, as well as his liking to change and try new things. Designer Michael Michalsky supported his decision by saying: "Bill Kaulitz is unique and uncompromising, Pop-Art brought to life. He likes to change – that is fashion."[22][23] For the Dsquared2 Fall/Winter 2010 fashion show, Kaulitz opened and closed the show with the song Screamin'.

Tom Kaulitz

Tom Kaulitz (* 1.

He then played for Hertha BSC and Hertha BSC II from 2012 to 2015.[11] He scored six goals in 32 matches for Hertha and one goal in one match for the reserve team during the 2012–13 season.[13] He scored two goals in 25 matches for Hertha in the 2013–14 season.[14] He also played a match for the reserve team without scoring a goal.[14] In his final season with Hertha, he played 16 matches for the first team and one match for the reserve team without scoring a goal for either team.[15]

1899 Hoffenheim
On 30 June 2016, Wagner joined fellow Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim by signing a contract until June 2019.[18] He was presented the same day, and took squad number 14, stating: “Hoffenheim are a great club and their ambition impressed me straight away.”[18]

He made his competitive debut with the team on 28 August 2016 in the opening Bundesliga matchday against newcomers of RB Leipzig which ended in a 2–2 home draw.[19] He opened his scoring account in the second matchday against Mainz 05, netting his team's first goal as Hoffenheim came from three goals down to earn a 4–4 away draw.[20]

On 31 March 2017, he had his finger dislocated after a clash with Hertha captain Vedad Ibišević, nevertheless he went on to play until the end of the match, also assisting Andrej Kramarić for the third goal in an eventual 1–3 away win.[21][22] Wagner finished his first Hoffenheim season by netting 11 league goals in 31 appearances,[23] 30 of them as starter, adding two cup appearances and one goal,[23] being important for Julian Nagelsmann's side that finished the league undefeated at home, securing a spot in Champions League play-off round for next season.[24]

Wagner's first match since his return was when he came on as a substitute against Bayer Leverkusen on 12 January 2018.[27] He opened his scoring account on 27 January by netting the last goal of a 5–2 home win over his former side 1899 Hoffenheim.[28] He played his first match as starter the next week in the 2–0 away win against Mainz.[29] Wagner scored his second ever UEFA Champions League goal, the first in Bayern colours, on 14 February in the second leg of quarter-finals versus Beşiktaş as Bayern won 3–1 at Vodafone Park and progressed 8–1 on aggregate.[30]

Wagner started the 2018–19 season by coming in as a substitute in a 5–0 win in the 2018 DFL-Supercup.[31] During the 2018–19 season with Bayern, he scored one goal in 12 appearances in all competitions.[11]

Tianjin Teda
Although his contract with Bayern was supposed to expire in 2020, he asked for it to be terminated due to his growing frustrations with his playing time on the pitch. On 30 January 2019, Wagner transferred to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda for €5 million.[32] Bayern sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, said that he "has a very attractive offer from China and we have met his request" and he thanked Wagner for "spending time with FC Bayern" and wished him "all the best and much success for his future in China".[33]

International career
Youth
He has earned 8 caps for Germany at Under 21 level, scoring four goals, including two in the final of the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in Sweden where Germany beat England 4–0.[34]

In June 2017, Wagner received his first call-up to the senior national team for a friendly against Denmark and a FIFA World Cup qualifying match against San Marino.[35] He made his competitive debut on 6 June in the 1–1 away draw against Denmark, playing for more than 60 minutes.[36] Four days later, he scored a hat-trick as Germany thrashed 7–0 San Marino.[37] His performance was praised by national team manager Joachim Löw.[38]

Wagner was also part of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup which ended in conquest.[39] His first and only appearance came on 19 June in the opening Group B match against Australia, missing several good chances to score as Germany won 3–2.[40] After that, he was benched in favour of Timo Werner and Lars Stindl as Germany defeated Chile 1–0 in the final.[41] Wagner finished 2017 by scoring against Northern Ireland[42] and Azerbaijan.[43]

On 16 May 2018, after being left out from Germany's World Cup squad, Wagner announced his retirement from international football.[44]

Style of play
Wagner is known for aerial power, strength, and is distinguished as a hard-working player. He is also physically imposing and direct, and has been praised as a striker who can "wreak havoc" in defenses.[45] Speaking in June 2017, Germany manager Joachim Löw stated that Wagner has "maturity and personality and one who stands by his own opinion".[38]

Kevin-Prince Boateng

Kevin-Prince Boateng (About this soundpronunciation (help·info) pronounced [ˈkɛvɪn pʁɪns bo.aˈtɛŋ]; born 6 March 1987), is a professional footballer who plays for Italian club Fiorentina.

A midfielder who can also play as a forward, Boateng is known for his strength, footspeed and ball-juggling tricks.[7][8] A 2014 profile on FIFA's official website described Boateng as "blessed with strength, speed, killer instinct in front of goal, and an uncommon flamboyance in the attacking third."[9]

Throughout his career, Boateng has represented various clubs in Germany and Italy, and also had spells in England and Spain.

Born in Germany, he represented Germany internationally at youth level, although at senior level he later represented Ghana 15 times between 2010 and 2014, scoring two goals, and took part at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups with the team.
Club career
Early career
Reinickendorfer Füchse
Boateng started his club career with the club Reinickendorfer Füchse in early 1994 at age six prior to signing for Hertha BSC on 1 July 1994 at the age of seven, first playing for them to 31 July 2007 when he was 20 years old.[10]

Early time with Hertha BSC
Hertha BSC II
After emerging from the Hertha feeder teams, Boateng played for Hertha BSC II for two seasons. He was promoted to the Hertha first team squad in the 2005–06 season.[7]

Hertha BSC
Boateng made his first team debut in a 2–0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the second round of the 2005–06 Bundesliga season on 13 August 2005 at the Olympic Stadium, being brought on at the beginning of the second half.[11]

Boateng was awarded the Fritz Walter Bronze Medal Award in the Under-18 category in 2005.[12] Boateng started his first Bundesliga match in a 2–2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 14th round of the Bundesliga season.

On 27 July 2006, Boateng was awarded the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in the Under-19 category.[12]

Tottenham Hotspur
Boateng signed a four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur in July 2007 for a reported £5.4 million, securing him ahead of UEFA Cup holders Sevilla.[13] His success at the club was limited,[14] and he was loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January 2009 for the remainder of the season.[15]

Borussia Dortmund (loan)
He made ten Bundesliga appearances during his loan, but was forced to miss the final two matches of the season for a suspension of four matches imposed by the German Football Association (DFB) following a tough challenge and "no-nonsense flying kick" to the head of VfL Wolfsburg's Makoto Hasebe.[16]

Dortmund were eager to sign Boateng permanently at the end of the season, but financial constraints prevented them from doing so
English Premier League club Portsmouth signed Boateng on a three-year contract in August 2009 for a reported fee of around £4 million.[19][20] On 12 September 2009, he scored his first goal for the club against Bolton Wanderers,[21] and was named Portsmouth's joint Player of the Month.[22] He finished his only season at the club with three goals in 22 Premier League games as they were relegated amidst financial disarray.

In May 2010, Portsmouth played Chelsea in the FA Cup Final, which Chelsea won 1–0. During the match, Boateng fouled Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack, injuring Ballack's ankle and ruling him out of the impending 2010 World Cup. Boateng claimed that Ballack slapped him in the face prior to this, and that he apologised to Ballack personally for the tackle which left him injured.[23][24][25][26][27]

Boateng called the German media and the German national team players hypocrites for backing Ballack whilst ignoring his slap on the pitch.[28] Boateng also criticised Joachim Löw for protecting Ballack after he slapped striker Lukas Podolski in a German national football team training match the previous year.
On 30 August 2013, Milan announced that Boateng had been transferred to German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 for a €10 million transfer fee[44] on a four-year contract due to expire in June 2017.[45]

Boateng made his debut for Schalke 04 in a 2–0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen.[46] On 14 September 2013, he scored the winning goal for Schalke 04 in a 1–0 win over Mainz 05.[47] On 30 October 2013, Boateng was voted the Schalke 04 player of the month for October 2013 by fans.[48] On 9 November 2013, Boateng scored two goals against Werder Bremen; Schalke 04 won the match 3–1.[49][50] Boateng scored seven Bundesliga goals over the season as Schalke finished in third place.[51]

On 11 May 2015, Boateng, alongside Sidney Sam and Marco Höger, was suspended indefinitely from the club in the aftermath of a defeat against 1. FC Köln as a result of poor behaviour which claimed to have led to the club's poor domestic performances.[52][53]

His contract with Schalke was terminated on 8 December 2015.[54]

Return to Milan
As Schalke 04 terminated his contract in December 2015, Boateng re-joined Milan on 5 January 2016 on a free transfer and signed a six-month contract.[citation needed] He was training with Milan since his suspension in September 2015.[55] He made his official return debut on 9 January 2016, playing 36 minutes against Roma in a 1–1 draw and scored his first goal in his first match back at the San Siro six days later against Fiorentina in a 2–0 win.[56]

On 25 May 2016, club owner Silvio Berlusconi announced Boateng's departure, along with those of Alex, Philippe Mexès and Mario Balotelli.[57]

Las Palmas
On 2 August 2016, Spanish La Liga club Las Palmas announced that they had reached an agreement with Boateng for his signature following his release from Milan.[58] He made his debut on 22 August 2016 in a 4–2 away win against Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.[59] On 24 October Boateng scored a goal against Villarreal which was regarded by some pundits as one of the best goals of La Liga that year.[60]

On 16 August 2017, Las Palmas announced that Boateng had cancelled his contract by the club by mutual consent, citing "irreversible personal reasons" for the decision.[61]

Eintracht Frankfurt
On 18 August 2017, Boateng completed his move to Eintracht Frankfurt on a three-year deal.[62]

Sassuolo
On 5 July 2018, Boateng signed with Sassuolo on a three-year deal.[63][64]

Barcelona (loan)
Boateng joined Spanish La Liga club Barcelona on 21 January 2019 on loan until the end of the 2018–19 season, with the club holding an option to sign him permanently for a €8 million transfer fee.[65] He has joined the Catalan side to serve as a backup for Luis Suárez after Munir El Haddadi was sold to Sevilla.[66] The transfer made him the first Ghanaian ever to represent the club.[67] He made his club debut on 23 January, in a 2–0 away defeat to Sevilla in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.[68]

Fiorentina
On 30 July 2019, Boateng signed with ACF Fiorentina.[69] He made his debut for the club on 24 August in the opening game of the 2019–20 Serie A season, coming on as a substitute in the second half and scoring a goal in an eventual 4–3 home loss to Napoli.
