Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Jovon Ruth Pete  (born February 15, 1995),  known professionally as Megan Thee Stallion (pronounced "Megan the Stallion" ), is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Born in Bexar County, Texas and raised in South Park, Houston, Megan Thee Stallion began writing and performing raps as a teenager. She first garnered attention when videos of her freestyling became popular on social media platforms such as Instagram. She has released three EPs since 2017—Make It Hot, Tina Snow, and Suga—with the latter two charting on the US Billboard 200. She signed to 300 Entertainment in 2018, and released her first full-length mixtape, Fever, in 2019 to critical acclaim.

In 2020, her single "Savage" went viral on the social media app TikTok and reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of a remix with Beyoncé. She has won two BET Awards, two BET Hip Hop Awards, a MTV Video Music Award, and a Billboard Women in Music Award.
Megan Jovon Ruth Pete was born on February 15, 1995 in Bexar County, Texas,  and raised in the South Park neighborhood in Houston.  Her mother, Holly Thomas, rapped under the name "Holly-Wood" and would bring her daughter with her to recording sessions instead of putting Pete in daycare.  Pete and her mother moved to Pearland, Texas, a suburb of Houston, when she was 14 and lived there until she was 18.

Pete began writing raps at age 16.  When she told to her mother that she wanted to rap, Holly required that Pete wait until she was 21 to pursue rapping as a career.  Her mother commented that her lyrics were too suggestive for her young age.  Pete graduated from Pearland High School in 2013.

In 2013, a clip of Pete (now "Megan Thee Stallion") went viral, where she was battling against male opponents in a "cypher" while she was a student at Prairie View A&M University. The viral video helped Pete gain a larger digital presence and following on social media.  She garnered fans by posting her freestyles on her Instagram while in college. She refers to her fans as "hotties", and credits her hyperactive fan base for her early success.  She adopted the stage name "Megan Thee Stallion" because she was referred to as a stallion during adolescence due to her height (5'10"  ) and looks.

After taking time off school, she resumed her studies at Texas Southern University in health administration, where she is a third year student as of 2019.
In her songs "Cocky AF" and "Freak Nasty" from her EP Tina Snow, she makes mentions to being part Creole.  She mentioned this again in a tweet in September 2017

Birkin bag

Birkin bag

The Birkin bag (or simply, Birkin) is a line of tote bags by the French luxury goods maker, Hermès, that is handmade in leather and named after English actress and singer Jane Birkin. Introduced in the 1980s, the bag quickly became a symbol of wealth and exclusivity due to its high price and long waiting lists.  Birkins are the most popular bag with handbag collectors, and was once seen as the rarest handbag in the world.  The bag's value as a matter of its intentionally high price has led to its being described as a Veblen good.

In 2020, prices started at US$11,000 and have reached up to HK$2.94 million (US$380,000) when a bag was sold at auction by Christie's in Hong Kong for a record price in May 2017.[4][6] Costs can vary widely according to the type of leather, if exotic skins are used, and if precious metals and jewels are part of the bag. Birkins are distributed to Hermès boutiques on unpredictable schedules and in limited quantities, which create artificial scarcity and exclusivity; however, the bags have flooded the upscale resale market and are frequently sold in second-hand boutiques and through social media.
In 1983, Hermès chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas was seated next to Jane Birkin on a flight from Paris to London. Birkin had just placed her straw travelling bag in the overhead compartment for her seat, but the contents fell to the deck, leaving her to scramble to replace them. Birkin explained to Dumas that it had been difficult to find a leather weekend bag she liked.

In 1984, he created a black supple leather bag for her, based on a 1982 design.  She used the bag initially, but changed her mind because she was carrying too many things in it: "What's the use of having a second one?" she said laughingly. "You only need one and that busts your arm; they're bloody heavy. I'm going to have to have an operation for tendonitis in the shoulder."  Nevertheless, since the late 1980s, the bag has become a status symbol, though it's become much easier to purchase due to aftermarket resales.
In July 2015, however, Birkin asked Hermès to stop using her name for the crocodile version due to ethical concerns, as PETA alleged crocodile farms supplying the hide to Hermès for the manufacture of the bags crammed their animals into barren concrete pits.  "At just one year old, alligators are shot with a captive bolt gun or crudely cut into while they're still conscious and able to feel pain," PETA said. Birkin is quoted as having asked Hermes "to debaptise the Birkin Croco until better practices in line with international norms can be put in place".

Washington Post

Washington Post

The Washington Post (sometimes abbreviated to WaPo) is an American daily newspaper published in Washington, D.C. It is the most widely circulated newspaper within the Washington metropolitan area.  Daily broadsheet editions are printed for the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The newspaper has won 69 Pulitzer Prizes.  This includes six separate Pulitzers awarded in 2008, second only to The New York Times's seven awards in 2002 for the highest number ever awarded to a single newspaper in one year.  Post journalists have also received 18 Nieman Fellowships and 368 White House News Photographers Association awards. In the early 1970s, in the best-known episode in the newspaper's history, reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein led the American press's investigation into what became known as the Watergate scandal. Their reporting in The Washington Post greatly contributed to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. In years since, the Post's investigations have led to increased review of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

In October 2013, the paper's longtime controlling family, the Graham family, sold the newspaper to Nash Holdings, a holding company established by Jeff Bezos, for $250 million in cash.
The Washington Post is regarded as one of the leading daily American newspapers  along with The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal. The Post has distinguished itself through its political reporting on the workings of the White House, Congress, and other aspects of the U.S. government.

Unlike The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post does not print an edition for distribution away from the East Coast. In 2009, the newspaper ceased publication of its National Weekly Edition, which combined stories from the week's print editions, due to shrinking circulation.  The majority of its newsprint readership is in the District of Columbia and its suburbs in Maryland and Northern Virginia.

The newspaper is one of a few U.S. newspapers with foreign bureaus, located in Beirut, Berlin, Beijing, Bogotá, Cairo, Hong Kong, Islamabad, Jerusalem, Kabul, London, Mexico City, Moscow, Nairobi, New Delhi, Paris, and Tokyo.  In November 2009, it announced the closure of its U.S. regional bureaus—Chicago, Los Angeles and New York—as part of an increased focus on "political stories and local news coverage in Washington."  The newspaper has local bureaus in Maryland (Annapolis, Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Southern Maryland) and Virginia (Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun County, Richmond, and Prince William County).
As of May 2013, its average weekday circulation was 474,767, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, making it the seventh largest newspaper in the country by circulation, behind USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Daily News, and the New York Post. While its circulation (like that of almost all newspapers) has been slipping, it has one of the highest market-penetration rates of any metropolitan news daily.

For many decades, the Post had its main office at 1150 15th Street NW. This real estate remained with Graham Holdings when the newspaper was sold to Jeff Bezos' Nash Holdings in 2013. Graham Holdings sold 1150 15th Street (along with 1515 L Street, 1523 L Street, and land beneath 1100 15th Street) for US$159 million in November 2013. The Washington Post continued to lease space at 1150 L Street NW.  In May 2014, The Washington Post leased the west tower of One Franklin Square, a high-rise building at 1301 K Street NW in Washington, D.C. The newspaper moved into its new offices on December 14, 2015.

The Post has its own exclusive zip code, 20071.
