Additionally, Gomez has released three albums as a solo artist: Stars Dance (2013), Revival (2015), and Rare (2020), all of which debuted atop the Billboard 200.  She has earned eight top-ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100: "Come & Get It", "The Heart Wants What It Wants", "Good for You", "Same Old Love", "Hands to Myself", "We Don't Talk Anymore" with Charlie Puth, "It Ain't Me" with Kygo, and "Lose You to Love Me", the latter being her first number-one single on the chart.

In 2017, Billboard reported that Gomez has sold over 7 million albums and 22 million singles worldwide. Gomez has received various accolades and was honored as the Billboard Woman of the Year in 2017. She has a large following on social media, and was at one point the most-followed individual on Instagram. Gomez's other ventures include a makeup line, a clothing line, a handbag line, a fragrance line, and a production company named July Moonhead Productions. She has worked with various charitable organizations and, at age 17, she was appointed as a UNICEF ambassador.
Selena Marie Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 22, 1992,  to Ricardo Joel Gomez  and Texas-born  former stage actress Amanda Dawn "Mandy" Cornett.   Gomez was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, who died in 1995.  Her father is of Mexican descent while her mother, who was adopted, has some Italian ancestry.   Regarding her Hispanic heritage, Gomez has stated that she is "a proud third-generation American-Mexican"  and that, "My family does have Quinceañeras, and we go to the communion church. We do everything that's Catholic, but we don't really have anything traditional except   go to the park and have barbecues on Sundays after church." Gomez's parents divorced when she was five years old, and she remained with her mother.  Selena has two younger half-sisters: Gracie Elliot Teefey, through Amanda and her second husband Brian Teefey,  and Victoria "Tori" Gomez, through Ricardo and his wife Sara.  She earned her high-school diploma through homeschooling in May 2010.

When Gomez was born, her mother was sixteen years old.  The family had financial troubles during Gomez's childhood, with her mother struggling to provide for the pair.  At one point, Gomez recalled, they had to search for quarters just to get gas for their car.  Her mother later recalled that the two would frequently walk to their local dollar store to purchase spaghetti for dinner.  Gomez stated, "I was frustrated that my parents weren't together, and never saw the light at the end of the tunnel where my mom was working hard to provide a better life for me. I'm terrified of what I would have become if I'd stayed  ."  She later added that " was really strong around me. Having me at 16 had to have been a big responsibility. She gave up everything for me, had three jobs, supported me, sacrificed her life for me."  Gomez had a close relationship with her grandparents as a child, and appeared in various pageants growing up.   Her grandparents often took care of her while her parents finished their schooling, and the pair went as far as stating that they "raised her" up until she found success in the entertainment industry.
Gomez first gained an interest in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry watching her mother prepare for stage productions. She began auditioning for various roles, meeting Demi Lovato during an audition for Barney & Friends.  Both Gomez and Lovato were later selected to appear on the series in 2002,  with Gomez portraying the character of Gianna.  The show was her first experience in acting, with Gomez recalling, "I was very shy when I was little   I didn't know what 'camera right' was. I didn't know what blocking was. I learned everything from Barney."  Gomez appeared in thirteen episodes of the show between 2002 and 2004, though the show's producers released her as she was getting "too old" for the series.  While working on the series, Gomez had a cameo role in the film Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003) and the made-for-television film Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire (2005).  Gomez made a guest appearance in a 2006 episode of the Disney series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

Mehndi designs

Mehndi designs

Mehndi is a form of body art originating in ancient India, in which decorative designs are created on a person's body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis). Dating back to ancient India, mehndi is still a popular form of body art among the women of the Indian subcontinent, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Africa and the Middle East.

Mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhikā.  The use of mehndi and turmeric is described in the earliest Hindu Vedic ritual books. It was originally used for only women's palms and sometimes for men, but as time progressed, it was more common for men to wear it. Staining oneself with turmeric paste, as well as mehndi, are Vedic customs, intended to be a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun. Vedic customs are centered on the idea of "awakening the inner light". Traditional Indian designs are representations of the sun on the palm, which, in this context, is intended to represent the hands and feet. Mehendi has a great significance in performing classical dance like Bharatnatyam.

There are many variations and designs. Women usually apply mehndi designs to their hands and feet, though some, including cancer patients and women with alopecia occasionally decorate their scalps.  The standard color of henna is brown, but other design colors such as white, red, black and gold are sometimes employed.

Practiced mainly in the Indian subcontinent, mehndi is the application of a temporary form of skin decoration, popularized in the West by Indian cinema and the entertainment industry, the people in Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and the Maldives also use mehendi. Mehndi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are called henna tattoos.

Mehndi in Indian tradition is typically applied during Hindu weddings, Brahman weddings, Namboodiri weddings and Hindu festivals like Karva Chauth, Vat Purnima, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Navraathri, Durga Pooja and Teej. Muslims in the Indian subcontinent also apply Mehndi during Muslim weddings, festivals such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

In Hindu festivals, many women have Henna applied to their hands and feet and sometimes on the back of their shoulders too, as men have it applied on their arms, legs, back, and chest. For women, it is usually drawn on the palm, back of the hand and on feet, where the design will be clearest due to contrast with the lighter skin on these surfaces, which naturally contain less of the pigment melanin.

Alta, Alata, or Mahur is a red dye used similarly to henna to paint the feet of the brides in some regions of India, for instance in Bengal.

Likely due to the desire for a "tattoo-black" appearance, some people add the synthetic dye p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) to henna to give it a black colour. PPD may cause severe allergic reactions and was voted Allergen of the Year in 2006 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
Mehndi is a ceremonial art form which originated in the ancient Indian subcontinent. It is typically applied during weddings - for Muslim and Hindu brides. In Rajasthan, the grooms are given designs that are often as elaborate as those for brides. In Assam, apart from marriage, it is broadly used by unmarried women during Rongali bihu.

Muslims in Afghanistan also started to use it as an indication of coming of age. In the Middle East and Africa, it is common for women to apply henna to their fingernails and toenails and to their hands.

Anne Sacoolas

Anne Sacoolas

Harry Dunn was a 19-year-old British man who died following a road traffic collision, on 27 August 2019. He was riding his motorcycle near Croughton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, near the exit to RAF Croughton, when it collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction. The car, a Volvo XC90, was driven by Anne Sacoolas, a former CIA operative and the wife of Jonathon Sacoolas, a CIA operative working at the United States Air Force listening station at RAF Croughton.  Sacoolas admitted that she had been driving the car on the wrong side of the road, and the police said that, based on CCTV footage, they also believed that was the case. Dunn was pronounced dead at the Major Trauma Centre of John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The collision became the centre of an international diplomatic incident after the United States government advised and then assisted Sacoolas to flee the country while claiming diplomatic immunity. On 20 December 2019 the Crown Prosecution Service said that Sacoolas was to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Harry Dunn lived in Charlton, near Banbury.  On the evening of 27 August 2019 he died in hospital after a collision with a vehicle while riding his motorcycle on the B4031 road about 400 yards (400 m) from the exit from RAF Croughton. The car was driven by Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US government employee working at the United States Air Force listening station at RAF Croughton.  Police said they believed the car, a Volvo XC90, had been driven on the wrong side of the road from the base exit,  which Sacoolas later admitted.  Sacoolas had a previous driving infraction in the US state of Virginia in 2006 for "failing to pay full time and attention".  The BBC reported that the Sacoolas family had only been in the UK for three weeks.

Call handlers for the emergency telephone call categorised Dunn's injuries as category 2, requiring ambulance attention within 40 minutes; the ambulance arrived 43 minutes after the collision. The chief executive of East Midlands Ambulance Service later said that because of a shortage of ambulance crews, the categorisation did not make a difference, because the nearest doctor was far away. Dunn was pronounced dead at the Major Trauma Centre of John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.  The funeral of Harry Dunn took place on 17 September  followed by cremation at an Oxfordshire crematorium.

One Direction

One Direction

One Direction, often shortened to 1D, are an English-Irish pop boy band formed in London, England in 2010. The group are composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson; former member Zayn Malik departed from the group in 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2010. Propelled to global success by social media,  One Direction's five albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014), and Made in the A.M. (2015), topped charts in most major markets, and generated hit singles including "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", "Best Song Ever", "Story of My Life" and "Drag Me Down".

The group have won nearly 200 awards including seven Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards (including Artist of the Year in 2014 and 2015), and 28 Teen Choice Awards. They have embarked on four world tours, two of which were all-stadium. In 2013, they earned an estimated $75 million, becoming the second highest earning celebrity under 30 according to Forbes.  The world’s best-selling artist of 2013, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) named them the Global Recording Artist of the Year.  Forbes ranked them as the fourth highest-earning celebrities in the world in 2015,  and second in 2016.

After the release of Four, One Direction became the first band in the U.S. Billboard 200 history to have their first four albums debut at number one.  Their third album, Midnight Memories, was the best-selling album worldwide in 2013 with 4 million copies sold globally.  The band's Where We Are Tour, in support of Midnight Memories, was the highest-grossing concert tour in 2014, the highest-grossing tour by a vocal group in history, and the 15th highest-grossing concert tour of all time, grossing $290.2 million (unadjusted for inflation).  In 2014, Billboard named One Direction Artist of the Year.  The band went on hiatus in January 2016, allowing all members to pursue other projects.  As of 2017, the band have sold a total of 50 million records worldwide.
In 2010, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson auditioned as solo candidates for the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor.  They all failed to progress in the "Boys" category at the bootcamp stage of the competition, but were instead put together to form a five-piece boy band,  thus qualifying for the "Groups" category. Nicole Scherzinger, a guest judge, and Simon Cowell have both claimed to have come up with the idea of forming the band. In 2013, Cowell said that it "took him 10 minutes to put them together as a group".  Subsequently, the group got together for two weeks to get to know each other and to practice.  Styles came up with the name One Direction. For their qualifying song at "judges' houses", and their first song as a group, One Direction sang an acoustic version of "Torn". Cowell later commented that their performance convinced him that they "were confident, fun, like a gang of friends, and kind of fearless as well."  Within the first four weeks of the live shows, they were his final act in the competition. The group quickly gained popularity in the UK.

One Direction achieved third place in the competition and immediately after the final, their song "Forever Young", which would have been released if they had won The X Factor, was leaked onto the internet. Shortly afterwards it was confirmed that One Direction had been signed by Cowell to a reported £2 million Syco Records record contract.  Recording for their debut album began in January 2011, as they flew to Los Angeles to work with RedOne, a record producer.  A book licensed by One Direction, One Direction: Forever Young (Our Official X Factor Story), was published by HarperCollins in February 2011,   subsequently topping The Sunday Times Best Seller list.  The same month, the boy band and other contestants from the series participated in the X Factor Live Tour. During the tour, the group performed for 500,000 people throughout the UK.  After the tour concluded in April 2011, the group continued working on their debut album.  Recording took place in Stockholm, London and Los Angeles, as One Direction worked with producers Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha, Steve Mac, and Rami Yacoub, among others.
