Tamil Thalaivas

Tamil Thalaivas is a Kabaddi team based in Tamil Nadu that plays in the Pro Kabaddi League.[1] The team is owned by industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad and co-owned by the cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, also includes actors Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and film producer Allu Aravind. Actor Vijay Sethupathi is the brand ambassador of the team. Tamil Thalaivas play their home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Chennai), Tamil Nadu.

Since making its debut in the PKL, this team led by Ajay Thakur hasn't had much success after finishing rock bottom in Zone B, both in 2017 and 2018-19.

Franchise history
Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is a professional kabaddi league in India, based on the format of the Indian Premier League T20 cricket tournament. The fifth edition of the tournament is being played in 2017 with 12 franchises representing various cities in India. Representing Chennai, ‘Tamil Thalaivas’ made their debut in 2017. The team plays their home games at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Chennai).[2]

2017 season

In the auction for the 2017 season, Thalaivas picked up defender Amit Hooda for Rs 63 lakh. They also roped in Indian national team captain Ajay Thakur.[3][4]

2018 season

Tamil Thalaivas announced that E Bhaskaran will become the new head coach with outgoing head coach Kasinatha Baskaran moving into the role of Technical Director for Strategic Grassroot Program of the franchise.[5]

Tamil Thalaivas retained Ajay Thakur, Amit Hooda and C Arun. They roped in D. Pratap ahead of the 2018 auction. In the auction, Sukesh Hegde and Darshan J were purchased by the franchise for Rs 28 lakh each. All-rounder Manjeet Chillar was also picked up by the Thalaivas for Rs. 20 Lakhs. South Korea's Chan Sik Park and Jae Min Lee were roped in as overseas players.
